I am trying to network my laptop with windows 2000 and my
desk top with windows xp. When I make a "network disc"
from my desktop and try to install it on my laptop it does
not support windows 2000. Is there any upgrades or ? that
will make them compatable.

Configure Windows 2000's TCP/IP settings to obtain an IP address
automatically, and set its workgroup name to the same name as XP uses
(default is MSHOME). That's all that should be needed to network 2000
with XP.
