Have you tried the following:
In Vista Networking and Sharing:
1 Network Discovery ON
2 File Sharing ON
3 Public Folder Sharing ON
4 Password Protected OFF

And have you made sure that the workgroup names are the same on XP and Vista.
By default XP is MSHOME and Vista is WORKGROUP
Also "Shared Docs" in XP is called "Public Folder" in Vista

Thank you for your reply

I have checked 1,2,3,4 all ok

Workgroup names is very confusing for me never thought about this

When i install XP all i do for networking, i call it workgroup that's when
installing the XP

With Vista can't remember anything like that.

Now my question is where can i find these names and how to change it

Using Windows explorer i can see in XP under Micr. Win. Network the name:
"Workgroup" is that the name??

When in Vista Network & Sharing yes there i see network name is: "Network"

Is network name and workgroup name the same thing???

I can change the Network name in Vista to Work group is that the correct
thing to do?? that's simple for me

Can i change share doc's to public Folder in XP??

Would be pleased if you assist me once more

Click start> Right-click Computer> left-click Properties> Computer
Name(across the top tabs) > change comp name, etc(down the bottom)click on
change. In the next window, there is a provision for a domain name, and a
workgroup name
Don't touch domain!

Do the same in both computers, and make the Workgroup names the same.
You can call both antartica, if you want you!

Network and Workgroup are different kettles of fish.

The "Shared Docs" folder in XP is the equivalent of "Public" in Vista; leave
the names alone.

And in Vista make sure it is a private Network

Just reread your post!
Make sure that the 4 computers have the SAME workgroup name.
Sorry about that.
