Networking Vista into XP

I have an established home network of 2 computers (ethernet) using XP. The
laptop recently died and i replaced it with a vista laptop. Have tried
connecting the vista laptop but it will not pick up the other computer (and
XP will not pick up the vista). Have set to private, downloaded LLTD for the
XP, made sure all connections are correct, all are on the same work group,
the vista will connect to the ethernett hub and states it is working
correctly, - any ideas on getting the computers to recognise each other.

There are known issues with computers running Windows Vista networking with
others running Windows XP.

The most likely would be a master browser conflict, caused by a personal
firewall, or a NetBT setting problem.

You could look at logs from "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net config
server", and "net config workstation", from each computer, and diagnose the
problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions
precisely (download browstat!):

Have a read of the above.

Also,in vista Network and sharing make sure
Network discovery ON (so it can SEE XP)
File sharing ON
Public Folder sharing ON (vista public is same as XP's shared docs)
Password protect OFF(only because it is in your home )
You have set network to private, and workgroup names are the same(correct)

Also in XP when you have done the above; run the XP home Network file and
printer sharing wizard, so that is knows vista is there!

You say Outback; Port Hedland, Mt Isa?
 
Out back as in west of Dubbo...... Not the end of the earth but it might as
well be some times. :-)
