I have an XP pro and XP home computers that I want to
network to share files, printers, and play games. I have
connected the computers with a cross-over cable and have
run the network wizard and network setup, and set each
computer's drives to shared. They each have different one
word names but the same work group name. Each computer can
only see itself on the My Network.
How can I fix this?

The most common cause of this problem is ICF: disable it forever.
on both XP PCs.

I don't know where you get your IPAs, so check them by RUN CMD
and then IPCONFIG/ALL in the CMD window. The IPAs must be in
the same subnet; typically, for IPA=a.b.c.d, a.b.c should be the
same and the d's should be unique.

Start with only TCP/IP; disable IPX/SPX and NetBEUI. Then, enable
NetBIOS over TCP/IP; enable ClientForM$nets; and enable F&P sharing.

XP does not like to share all folders, so start by creating a
non-root folder on each PC with a short simple folder name and
a short simple share name; give Everybody full access to those
folders.

Next, create identical accounts (username & PW) on each PC and login
to them both; that will probably get cross-net access to those
shared folders.
