Hi,

I have 2 computers one running Windows XP Home and the other running Windows
98. I'm trying to get these two computers networked on a 100/10Mbps
Ethernet network. With both computers connected with a cross-over cable,
and both network cards installed correctly I ran the Win XP Home Networking
Wizard. I set the network up successfully creating a Network Startup Disc
for the Win 98 computer. With startup disc wizard I set the network to
"File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks". I set up what folders to
share on both computers and then expected to be able to access the files,
which I couldn't. The Win XP Home computer can 'see' the Win 98 computer,
but it can't access it (i.e. in My Network Places the Win 98 computer is
there but I can't access it) though sometimes it can't 'see' the Win 98
computer. The Win 98 computer can sometimes see the Win XP computer but
can't access it, though sometimes it can't. The Win XP computer has sent
and received packets over the network (as it shows in the Local Area
Connection Status box). When I log onto the Win 98 computer it asks for the
Network Password for Microsoft Networking (even though I don't have a
password for the network, or the computer, so I leave it blank), when I
press OK, a popup says that there was no domain server to validate the
password.

I've disabled the Win XP Firewall, and all my other firewalls to get it
working but that hasn't helped. I've set passwords up on both computers,
trying to create a 'network password', but that hasn't helped.

I'd appreciate any help you could give me,

Matthew

1. Check IP addresses. Test can you ping from one computer to another one ?

2. User name and passwords. You must have same user name and password in
both computer to access shared folder on WinXP.

3. by default WinXP dont allow network connection for blink password.
