hopefully this is the correct forum, new to the PC Review website. I have a networking problem that has got me puzzled. The machines in question are NAS device and Host server. The NAS is running W2k terminal and HOST is running w2k3 64bit. Both have gigabit ethernets. Networking is working fine between the machines (no network just hard connected together with cross over cable) If I copy from HOST to NAS all seems great for the first 100MB but after that the network speed drops considerably. On the HOST in task manager -> network tab I see the % reduce from 30 to 0 then .55 etc. I saw in another posting the duplex setting sometimes does not work if set to "AUTO", however that posting was referencing a hub between machines. I have not hub, just directly connected. Any help is most appreciated. TCMLEAD

What are you using to transfer the data? Any client software or just using Windows Explorer ...or what?

what happens when you ping from one another? Do any packets get dropped?

Have you considered getting yourself a switch between NAS and server?

Change the cable for a start to eliminate it's not the cable.

:O Can't believe I didn't think of that, good idea

...I'll wait to here from you about those results before I advise further ;)

hahah

we do that a lot at work, pinging outwards sometimes a server would ping and drop packets but yet still be connected and able to transfer data!
