Networking on my Vista computer stops working on a daily basis (DNS, VPN,
accessing local files on an XP machine).

Rebooting resolves the issue.

Any ideas?

Thank you,
Michael

No; Also, if I put the computer in sleep mode, after resuming, networking
sometimes works and sometimes does not work.

Most instances, I have to reboot after resuming.

I have the same problem and has been a problem for about 2 months
(since getting Vista). I have no problems with my networked XP
machines. I have tried telling the Marvell Yukon network card (built
into an ACER desktop PC) not to go to sleep all to no avail. I have
updated the drivers twice with no change. Is there a driver setting
that may help to resolve this problem or is this caused by Vista knows
best policy which Microsoft have crow barred in to the OS.

Great! So this will stop, If I DONT use the OS to it's full capabilities?
Wonderful!

hi michael,
as a matter of fact i am using the endlessly nightmarish dial up service,
but i tried rebooting and this didnt eliminate the problem. also i recently
downloaded "incredimail" and it prompted me to configure my computer to use
"pop 3" whatever that is i dont know because unfortunately im 40 years old
and we didnt get computer training in mid school and high school like our
kids do and im obviously ignorant to computers otherwise i would have never
chose "high speed dial up service" by the way i currently use windows vista
(if that matters)
lol
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thank you michael for your input if any.

hi noddy,
i too have windows vista and what my computer repair guy did inform me about
vista is that it is an information magnet, meaning if it is virused it would
probably need to be triple stamped over in order for vista to stop being able
to read to virus even after deletion and it being quaranteened. now im not
saying your virused but if you have downloaded something that requires a
different server type that may be your problem and your system may just need
to have added additional servers.
hope this helps

play some games like partypoker or chess w/ gamecolony. however, in the
middle of these games, suddenly the computer stops DEAD w/o any warning.

I never experienced w/ XP.

I have vista too & have had nothing but problems with it from day one, it
conflicts with just about everything, some things it just wont let me
download at all & those it has let me download it wont let them download
fully, only had it a few months but totally hacked off with it.

I would'nt mind so much if I had actually chosen vista, but I did'nt the new
pc I ordered was advertised as being xp pro, which is what i had on old pc &
never had no problems with, but when it arrived it was vista & when I queried
it I was told ALL new pc's are vista there was'nt any other option available.

I really want to go back to xp pro which is yet going to make my pc even
more expensive having to buy it again which I think is all wrong we should
have a choice of what windows we prefer instead of having vista forced on us

i see that you were able to help the other gentleman and I hope you can help
me. I bought this Dell with Vista about 3 months ago. In the past week, the
network constantly disconnects and reconnects. In Network and Sharing, it
shows the nam of my network and that I am connected to the Internet. The
icons than disappear and it shows that it is identifying the network. It
takes about 30 seconds and the internet than comes back. It constantly
cycles through this all day long. I cannot figure out why it disconnects and
reconnects to the network. Please help.
