Networking Problems

I just set up my new computer with XP Pro and I wanted to
set up internet. I ran a cable from the router and ran it
down to my computer. The other computers I have hooked up,
work just fine. I hooked up cable and it says that my
Ethernet Networking adapter on my Motherboard is working
properly but it says cable is not plugged in. I messed
with settings and nothing seems to work. I even brought
down a laptop that has XP pro on it and just hooked it up
to the same cable I had running to my cmoputer and the
internet started up fine on that one. So I have no clue.I
mean, it says my motherboard networking is just fine...
but it keeps saying the networking cable isnt plugged in!
but it is!! I am lost lost lost.
