My desktop, running XP Pro, connects to the internet via an ethernet
connection to a router/firewall to a cable modem - Works fine. This leads me
to believe that the networking card and router are doing their jobs.
My laptop, also running XP Pro, connects to the internet via a wireless link
to a WAP linked to the same router. Works fine. This leads me to believe
that the wireless link and wouter connection is working OK.
I now want to network the two computers.
The laptop set up like a champ and shows itself on the network.
The desktop refuses to network, It shows the network connection, but when I
ask to "show computers on network" it gives me a long wait and then gives me
a message like" [NETWORK NAME] is not accessible. You may not have
permission...." While it may not be material, I formerly had the desktop
networked by cable, but was not running XP at the time.
The help directions for troubleshooting are not helpful and appear to have
been written for a different operating system.
Can anyone help an old klutz?
