Machine was conencted to internet via lan and connection was working fine.
Had to run a repair install from windows xp home CD. Repair install fixed
problem I had, but not my network connection is intermittent. It continues
to flash on and off the network making internet browsing impossible. Anyone
have any ideas of what the repair install might have changed? Thanks

Update your network adapter's drivers. Never get drivers from Windows
Update. Get them from:

1. The device mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM
computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the
drivers.

To find out what hardware is in your computer:

1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer.
2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific
model machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers
anyway)
3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc
Advisor. The older Aida32 is good for this, too.

Have reinstalled the device manufacturers drivers and have the same problem.
Have tried a new network card and the problem persists. Have even tried a
different PC on the particular network port and it works fine. This PC This
PC however will continue to disconeect and reconnect to the network, making a
viable internet connection impossible.

Ah - it would have been helpful if you had stated that in your first
post. Aside from hardware issues - motherboard, cable, port on the
router or switch - it could be anything. What was the original problem
that caused you to do a Repair Install? You said it solved the original
problem, but perhaps other things were broken and were not fixed.

If you haven't done so, it would also be wise to check the malware
status of the machine since malware definitely causes connectivity
issues.

Have checked and cleaned malware. Original repair install was done becuase
we needed to update media player from version 9 to version 10. Also, prior
to repair install could not get any windows updates. After repair install,
media player 10 installed flawlessly but now has the intermittent
connectivity. Have tried a couple fixes found on google but none have
worked. Have cabled directly to dsl modem, bypassing router, and same issue
remains. Is it possible TCP/IP corruption exists? I did run one bug fix for
that but it has not helped. Machine is malware and virus clean.

Since the repair install did not solve all your problems, I would do a
clean install. Reinstall drivers and programs from installation media,
restore data from backups.
