My work PC (Win2K) was working fine up until 16th July. I
noticed that both my e-mail and IE 6 are were not
functioning although I could browse my local network,
logon to all servers, ping any available device and all
mapped drives are OK.

I removed all network components from my PC eg nic
details, networking client, protocol (TCP/IP), etc. and
shutdown. When I restarted I reinstalled the componets and
the position was the same as the above.

I then checked the event log and saw a message containing
the following 'IPRIP unable to create socket etc' this
seems to be the culprit. The question is how do I restore
this service?

thanks in advance

RIP is a routing protocol. Windows has two implementations. The first one
is found in RRAS and is available only on Server skus. The second is an
added service ( RIP Listener ). In either case, you should uninstall the
protocol if it is not needed. If it is, post back and we'll try to work
through what the cause may be.
