networking printer to three computers

I've read similar threads but haven't been able to successfully apply any of
the remedies, so I'm going to ask again.

I have a desktop PC to which I have physically attached an hp officejet
printer. We have two new Gateway notebooks. I have successfully networked
the two new notebooks to the desktop PC via a Netgear wireless router so that
all the computers can access the internet.

Now I am trying to get the two notebooks to be able to share the printer
that's connected to the desktop PC. I have the "hand" icon that indicates my
printer is "sharable" with other computers; however, when I work from either
of the notebooks to try to find the printer I want to share, neither can find
the printer.

I do need step by step instructions to help me with this, so if anyone is
able to do so I would appreciate that. I'm suspecting it may be a firewall
issue but I'm not sure how to resolve that if that's the case.

Do you have the Windows Firewall enabled? If it is, see if it has an
exception for File/Printer Sharing.

Right-click on My Network Places (*) from the desktop | Properties |
righ-click on your local area connection | Properties | Advanced | Settings
under Windows Firewall | Exceptions | Check File/Printer Sharing. Close out
of all the dialog boxes.

Of course, this is one of a few things you can check. Let me know...

Have you assigned a password for the Guest user and turned on Simple
File Sharing?
