Networking office laptop to home comp

I have a laptop from office running Xp and a comp at home
runnin Win 98. the home comp has a network card which
allows a port thro which i can connect another comp. it
is the win 98 com which is connected to the net via a
phone cable.
could someone please advice on how i can network the two
computers. thank you

Well, if you don't won't to buy a hub or a switch, get a crossover wired Cat
5 cable. That will run directly from computer to computer. Both computers
have to have the same workgroup name (if the XP computer is on a domain at
work, leave it selected to domain and the domain name alone). Both computers
need to have there IP addresses set to the same IP numbering scheme. Now, if
you want to access the XP computer with the Win98 computer, you will have to
create an account on the XP machine matching a login on the Wni98 computer.
Matter of fact, if the Win98 computer has never been setup for a network,
there are quite a few things that need to be done. Let us know where you are
at setting this up.
