I am trying to connect two computers to share a DSL conection. the main computer(WORK) works fine and DSL is working fine. Unforutnately, I used the wizard to connect the other computer(FAMILY) to WORK in order to share the DSL connection. I gave each computer a unique IP address and I am using TCP/IP. When i tried to set up the internet connection in FAMILY to LAN an not Dial up, the option under proxy server keep appearing. I've tried changing them, but the changes wont stay. I would really apreciate any suggestions

thank

When using Internet Connection Sharing you do not need to specify any proxy settings, in any programs

ICS on Windows XP works much like a DHCP server and automaticaly sets up the required conenctions for any program needing to access the internet

On the FAMILY computer

If you Click Start>Settings>Control panel>Network Connections you can view your LAN. Firstly make sure its Enabled and is 'connected

If it is and your still having the problems right click on the LAN connection and select properties. The highlight TCP/IP and hit properties again. here you will have your IP settings where you say you have specifed an IP address. In the area designated for 'Deafualt gateway' make sure you have your WORK's computers IP address

Heres an example config

Wor

IP: 192.168.0.
Subnet: 255.255.255.
Gateway: Non

ADSL Internet conenction is set as 'Shared' in its propertie

Famil

IP: 192.168.0.
Subnet: 255.255.255.
Gateway: 192.168.0.

Technically these are the only options you need to specify to enable Internet Conenction Sharing over your network, you should not need ot specify any proxy settings

In Internet explorer there should be no 'LAN' settings enabled/setup and you should really select "Never Dial A Connection

Hope this helps you with your problem
