networking issues

I bought a new computer a few weeks ago with Vista. My networking worked
fine until this past Sunday. When I turned it back on after being gone for a
few days, it did succeed in connecting to the wireless network, but it gave
me a notification that the connection type was unknown. When I tried to pull
up the network center, it took a really long time, like 10 mins. I thought
it might be an issue with the wireless connection, but it does the same thing
when I connect via an ethernet cable.

Has anyone else seen a problem like this?

Have you rebooted your broadband modem and your router? If not, try that
first.

Yes, but it didn't change anything.

When I put my mouse over the notification icon on the toolbar it reads
"server execution failed"

Check to see if you can get online while directly connected by ethernet
cable to the broadband modem. If you can't, call your ISP.

giving me fits.

Since everything worked recently, try doing a System Restore back to
that time. To run System Restore, go to the Start Orb and in the Start
Search box type "System Restore" without the quotes. System Restore will
appear in the Programs result. Click on it, allow the UAC prompt, and
follow the wizard.
