How do you get Vista to join an existing network? I cannot get my Vista
machine to access an existing XP network nor can I get the XP machines to
access the Vista machine eventhough the Vista machine accesses the internet
through the router (connected to the existing network).

Hello,

Please make sure the following settings are set:

- Click Start
- Click Control Panel
- Click Network and Internet
- Click Network Center
- If Network Category says Public, clikc Change to Private
- If Discovery and Sharing is set to Block, click Allow

- Click the Back button at the top left of the window
- Click Network File and Printer Sharing
- Under Public Folder, click Allow people with network access to open,
change, and create files
- If you have a printer, click Allow people on the network to use printers
attached to this computer
- Click Save

Also, make sure the machines are in the same workgroup.

IN WINDOWS XP
- Click Start
- Right-click My Computer
- Click Properties
- Click Computer Name
- Write down what it says next to "Workgroup"

IN WINDOWS VISTA
- Click Start
- Right-click Computer
- Click Properties
- Click Advanced System Settings
- Click Computer Name
- If the Workgroup name does not match, then:
- Click "Change..."
- Under Workgroup, type the name of the Workgroup from Windows XP
- Click OK
- Click OK

You may have to restart your computer for these changes to take effect.
