Networking finds computer but won't allow access

I am trying to set up a new computer into a network using
windows XP. I can see the other computer, but cannot
access it's files. The files are set up to share
properly on the other computer.
I have been through the troubleshooter, but get to the
end without a fix.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Without any details of your network setup, it's hard to say what's
wrong.

Please pay particular attention to these sections:

1. Firewalls: Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection
Firewall on local area network connections -- it's for use only on a
direct modem connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all
other firewalls while troubleshooting.

2. Protocols: Use only one for File and Printer Sharing. If the
network needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing
from all but one of them.

3. NetBIOS over TCP/IP: Make sure that it's enabled on all computers.

I had a similar problem and tried all the advice and
troubleshooting and everything was set properly; however,
one thing that I did that fixed everything was load the
latest drivers for the ethernet port. I don't
understand; but my two 98 and two XP pro machines are
working great.
