Hi,

I am trying to set up a machine running w2k as a gateway.
This machine has got 2 networkcards.
First card connects to:
- my LAN.
Second card connects to:
- internet using pppoe,
- external LAN

this machine can connect to both LANs and to internet but
i cannot get the client machines in my LAN connect to
external LAN and internet simultaniously.

I am using ICS to share internet but how do I share the
external LAN?

You need to define "external lan." Do you mean a different subnet? domain?
workgroup? What do you have for ip addresses? What shares, user acounts
and groups are setup? Do they have correct permissions on your "external
lan?"
I'm not sure how your 2nd nic can make two different connections. Do you
have a hub or router? If you have a router, why use ICS? If you have a
hub, why not use a router instead?

My server has 2 NIC cards.

the first card connects to domain "krakeelhof"
From a server on this domain my server gets its IP
172.20.43.50 and subnetmask 255.255.252.0 (external lan)
The same card connects to internet using pppoe and this
connection gets IP 145.94.52.20 and subnetmask
255.255.255.255

I like to share both connections to my internal lan
containing 1 client computer. My goal is to connect
multiple clients via a switch to my server thus forming my
internal lan but to start i would like to set it up with
only 1 client connected via a crosscable.

I have been able to share the external lan connection to
with the client using windows server 2003 buildin router.
I have been able to share the internet connection using
ICS. But cannot get both to work at the same time and have
also been unable to share the internet connection using
the router cause this interface is not recognised by the
router.

I have been searching the internet but could not find a
similar setup. Do you have any ideas?

The two different subnets will not be able to see each other as is.
Generally, to connect local computers together within same network, you need
a switch. To connect networks together, you need a router. So, you had the
right idea trying to use the built-in router, but I would suggest a hardware
router instead in front of your server, then just connect all
clients/switches and server to that router. With this setup, I believe you
will not need ICS

Hope that helps.

I don't really see the difference in the setup. The setup
I used required my server to share both connection to
external lan and connection to internet to my internal lan
while the suggested setup here requires the hardware-
router to do so.

Why would the router be able to share these connections
and my server be unable to share them?

NOTE: When my server logs onto domain "krakeelhof" it will
always get IP 172.20.43.50 when the MAC-ADDRESS
corresponds with the registered one. If this address
doesn't correspond another IP address is assigned with
which I am unable to logon to network mappings or
establish an internet connection.

The difference is, as you said, that ICS is not recognized by the software
router. If you use a hardware router, all pcs connected to it including the
server, will have the same access to the internet and external lan.
