Is it possible to network computers together when your internet connection is
via an aircard from say Cingular or Verizon?
Yes.
You can get a wireless router that supports a mobile broadband card:
Linksys WRT54G3G-ST

this router currently only supports cards from Sprint and a bunch of
Vodafone cards:

D-Link DIR-451 or DIR-450

support Cingular, Verizon, and Sprint cards.
There may be others:

Although using a router is probably the best way to go -- it provides
both flexibility and safety (most of these routers incorporate both NAT
and some sort of firewall), if you don't want to buy a router, or you
have a mobile card/carrier that isn't supported, you can still share the
Internet connection by using Windows Internet Connection Sharing. The
computer on which the mobile card is installed must have a separate
network interface connection. If you want to share the Internet
connection (and files and printers) with more than the main computer and
one other computer, you will need a network switch.
The main drawback of ICS is that the main computer must be on in order
for any of the other computers to access the Internet through the mobile
card. But considering connect charges, you probably aren't going to
leave the card connected 24/7 anyway.
