Hi All

Obviously I am new at this...but I was wondering. Can a
DSL router be used to network a laptop to a Home based PC?

I understand the principal of a router but I was just
wondering if it also had some type of pass through built
into it to allow 2 or more computer to "talk to" each
other.

Or do I have to go out and install a second NIC in each
machine...then connect them together.

Right now each machine only has 1 NIC each and currently
they are ported into the DSL box.

Any advice on how to get the laptop directly connected to
the home unit.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

You just need one nic in each computer. The router will be the DHCP
server.Make sure both computers are in the same workgroup. Use just Client
for Microsoft Networks and TCP/IP for the protocols. Share some folders on
each machine. Make sure printer and file sharing is enabled and both
machines have the same protocols. Uninstall any extras. You didn't mention
the OS that you are trying to network. Enable netbios over tcp/ip. Here is a
good site http://www.practicallynetworked.com/
