Networkig windows XPdenies ame access to resources

I have a lap top connected to a deskptop through a router and I am trying to
network them. The Laptop see's the workgroup kingdrive, but I cannot go
further than that so see files on the desk top. The error message reads
'Kinddrive is not accessible. You might not have permission to use thid
network resource. Contact the administratos of this server to find out if you
have access permission. ... The list of servers for this workgroup is not
currently available'

On the desktop, when I click on the workgroup KINGDRIVE, it drops down the
Laptop and the Desktop in the workgroup and when I try to access the laptop
further I get a similar message.

Can anyone help me solve this issue or give me an advise on what to do?

Try to go to Start > Run > type in \\**COMPUTER-NAME** > you can find the
computer name if you right click my computer and select properties, choose
the computer name tab, and the name will be under Full computer name:

The the workgroup, it could just be the firewall. Try disabling it.
