is there any way to set up a networked scanner?
I have a W2K server & XP stations. I've been asked to try top find a way to
set up some centralized scanners, but I'm not sure that it can even be done.

The best bet would be a networked office system which either scans and
emails a .pdf attachment or scans directly into an application. OTOH, some
manufacturers supply similar software with consumer products as well.

Most scanners don't support operating as a network device, though you could
create one or more shared folders to scan documents into and have users
access them from that folder.

Check out http://www.remote-scan.com/
I have always been skeptical of such things, but one of my clients recently
tried this & had some success. I haven't used it myself.
In general, though, as you have to get up & go to the scanner in the first
place, I'm not sure this saves you all that much work. Your mileage may
vary. :-)

contact the bigger companies like xerox or nashuatec or some other
lease company
they all have standard solutions for this

the scanner device can be set up to scan to a folder on the network
even a custom folder for each user
or send it in an email as an attachment

Yes they do, we have one. BUT, the most efficient method of using it is
to have a networked pc set up for users to manipulate/view the scan at
the scanner and then forward or save the results to the network. This is
maybe what the OP is thinking?
