networked machine boots slowly when other is off

I have 2 machines, A and B.
A is old, B is new.

I just linked them through a Linksys router. I added network connections
through Network and Dial up Connections.

When A is on, B boots up pretty quickly. When A is off, B boots up very
slowly.

A, on the other hand, always starts quickly.
No matter if B is on or not, there is no lag time to boot A. Networking
the 2 machines seemed never to affect A at all. But apparently B doesn't
like something.

Any ideas?

Windows 2000 SP4

Thanks.

It may be looking for shared devices, ie; drives, printer, etc.???

I have a printer hooked up to A. Is B trying to find it?

how do I determine what B is looking for?
