I am new to networking, and i do not know how to setup a
home network. I have 2 computers both using windows 2000
pro, connected through a network hub, to a cable modem.
both computers can access the internet just fine, but
cannot see each other. I have set shared files and drives
on both computers, set the wourkgroup name to the same,
and I am out of ideas. both computers can see that the
workgroup exists, but cannot view the contents, it gives
an error "wourkgroup is not accesible, a list of servers
for this workgroup is not currently available". I dont
know if it have to set one of the computers to act as a
server, but I dont know what i am doing anyway. Please put
any advice in laymans terms, thanks.

Make sure all computers are in the same workgroup and that all useraccounts
exist on all computers. Got File- and printersharing loaded?

Check to see that "File and Print Sharing" is enabled on both computers.
Check that if you have installed a firewall on either of your systems
(which you should have), make sure that it is set to pass local LAN
traffic. Read the User's guide on the firewall softwall to learn how to do
that.

From a CMD prompt, type IPCONFIG /ALL and report back on what it says for
both machines.
