Networkcable unplugged

I'am running three PC's behind a router. All three PC's
have different operating systems: Win98, Win2K, WinXP.

When the three PC's are all turned on, I get the
message "A Network Cable unplugged", it seems to me, at
random times (it seems to me) in WinXP. Then, WinXP
reconnects and it shows the message "Local area network
reconnected".

It's only happining, as I have figured out, when the Win98
PC is turned on. With both the Win2K and WinXP PC turned
on, I don't have this problem.

Does anyone know this problem and does have a solution?
Thanks.

I can't say why you are having the problem, but the first
thing I would do is to replace the three patch cables
that the three PCs are using with new ones. It is a dirt
cheap solution that may very well solve the problem.
(I pay $2 for a 7' cable (wholesale) in case anyone is
curious)
