I have been running a simple network with a machine
running 98 which also has a connection to my printer. I
run xp home on mine.

Suddenly after returning home from a 10 day absence, my
network does not work. Have run the setup a few times, no
luck. Now I do not even have access to my workgroup,
cannot even see my computer on the network.

Help please.

I would like to encourage you to purchase a small router
device for less than $100. This is by far the easiest way
to do what you want, and you will be more satisfied with
the results than you would be by a pure software
solution. My favorite models are the Linksys line, or you
might like the SMC 7004ABR, which includes a shared
printer port. I've been happy with the above device for
several years.

My guess is you may be able to stay online if you were to
establish a static IP address with your ISP. Otherwise,
you will need to reset the TCP/IP connection which I
suspect would disconnect momentarily your computer.

The advantage of having a Broadband Gateway is that the
Broadband gateway device can handle the negotiating with
the ISP connection for you, allowing you and your wife to
keep a stable configuration no matter what the ISP does.

Hope this helps!

I should have explained that I am using a Linksys router
so that both computers can access the internet, and
communicate with each other usually.
