I just brought an e machine with xp and can not download
the network wizard as I do not have a floppy drive. Is
there any way to download the wizard to a D or E drive.
You can run the network wizard from the XP CD-ROM, as shown here:
XP ICS - Starting the Network Setup Wizard
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_ics/networksetupwiz.htm
You can burn the Wizard's executable file to a CD or DVD and run it on
the other computers:
C:\Windows\System32\Netsetup.exe
If those options don't work for you, you can make the network settings
manually on the other computers. Here's what the Wizard would do if
it ran:
1. Set the computer name, computer description, and workgroup name
that you specify.
2. Install these network components if they're not already present:
a. Client for Microsoft Networks
b. TCP/IP
c. File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
3. Share any printers connected to the computer.
4. Create the "Shared Documents" folder if it doesn't exist.
5. Share the "Shared Documents" folder.
6. Configure the local area network connection to obtain an IP
address automatically.
