I have a two computer network conected to a 4 port
broadband cable router. Computer A is a brand new Windows
XP Home system. It has no updates except SP2 and no
COMCAST software. I was able to set it up on the network
and it works OK. Computer B is an older Windows XP Home
SP1 system with many updates (31) and the COMCAST software
installed. The IPCONFIG settings look good before running
the Network Setup Wizard and I can access the internet as
always. Can't access Computer A as expected. After I run
the Network Wizard and before rebooting, the IPCONFIG
settings are unchanged. I can access Computer A but can't
access the internet. On rebooting the IPCONFIG sttings
are all screwed up and I can't access either Computer A or
the internet. If I manually set the IPCONFIG settings to
the before rebooting settings, I can access Computer A but
still not access the internet.
I NEED HELP!! Did one of the Microsoft updates do
something to the Network Wizard??

Read my post. It sounds like we have the same problem. The only thing I can find in the knowledge base about the network wizard is the issue related to bridging multiple network adapters/connections

If you find anything out, let me know ... I'll do the same. I've been after this problem for nearly five days

You can do the configuration manually. It is very simple
if you have a router.
- The router should be all at its default settings. (You
can hard reset it to ensure this).
- The NIC connection settings for each PC should be at
their default settings. (You can uninstall the NIC driver
and reboot to get a fresh default driver install).

This should get internet access for all PCs.

- To share resources between the PCs each PC should have
the same workgroup name, a unique computer name, and a
network share.

Reboot everything starting cable modem, router, then PCs.

If you still find problems accessing the internet check
the gateway and DNS addresses for each NIC - if there is
nothing there manually enter the LAN IP adresses of the
router. e.g. 192.168.0.1 (Netgear) or 192.168.1.1
(Linksys)

Just a general question
Where did you get sp2 from? I've read it's due sometime later this year but
wasn't aware it's on general release yet.

My mistake. It's Internet Explorer 6 SP1.
Sorry about that!!

Tried your suggestions to no avail. I have a hunch its the COMCAST software and I can't figure out how to remove it and get back a pure microsoft Internet Explorer etc

Still looking for suggestions.

I originally had my COMCAST supplied modem (3COM)
connected directly to the computer and COMCAST software
installed. Then I recently tried to go through a 4 port
broadband router. That's when the trouble started.
After much trial and tribulation I suspected that the
COMCAST software was the root of the problem. There was
no way to uninstall it. I have just wiped the hard drive
clean and reinstalled Windows XP Home and SP1, rerun
Network Wizard and everything works as it should. I can
access the other computer and printer via the LAN and
have all of the internet service I've always had. HOORA!!

Yes, format and clean install will often resolve many issues.
If that had not resolved the issue, then it would most likely
point to a hardware problem.
