I an trying to connect a desktop and a laptop. Desktop
has a cable modem. Also have wireless router and a
wireless pcmia card. Desktop is running XP, laptop win 98
When I use network wizard I get the following message.

Other computers can not connect to the internet through
this computer.
In addition to it's internet connection, this computer
must have a connection to your network.

I thought I already had a network connection.

We need a bit more info on how your two devices are
connected. How are you trying to connect to the Internet?
Are you using Internet Connection Sharing? Are you trying
to connect each device to the router and then connect the
router to the cable modem?

Also, are you trying to connect via wired or wireless?

Each computer is able to connect to the internet through
the router separately . I am trying to share files from
my desktop to my laptop. The laptop is wireless, the
desktop is wired to a cable modem.

I think you chose the wrong Wizard option. Tell it that the computer
connects to the Internet through a "residential gateway", which is its
name for your wireless router.
