I have a desktop running XP and a laptop running win98. I
would like to share some files and the printer. But I
don't want to connect the laptop to the internet. I just
use the laptop to work on notes while watching tv and have
no need to have the internet ran to it. is it possible to
just share files and the printer without connecting to the
internet and does anyone know how I can do this? Thanks
in advance for any help.

Hi tracie
If you're the only user then why are you worried about connecting the laptop
to the internet?

Yes, it's possible. If you don't intentionally enable Internet
Connection Sharing on the desktop, it won't make its Internet
connection available to the laptop.

Run XP's Network Setup Wizard on both computers and give the
appropriate answers to its questions:

That depends on how you have things hooked up. If both computers are
connected to a Router, and then to the cable/dsl modem, then it will depend
on the firewall of your router. If you are just using a hub and your XP
computer is connected to the internet through Dial Up or sharing the
connection, than that will depend on the firewall of your XP Computer,
whether it will be from the built in XP Firewall (not recommended for file
sharing) or a third party firewall such as Zone Alarm Pro or Norton Personal
Firewall.
