First, if the cable is NOT a cross over cable and is just a normal Ethernet
cable, you won't be able to get them connected. So in this case you would
need a small hub or a switch. Then configure the IP schemes so they are
correct for the system.
The next issue would be sharing the calendar. AFAIK you need Exchange or
something centralized to share the calendar. I.e. as you described the issue
you won't be able to share the calendars.
