Hello Marina,
I have very similar problem. I have the following
computers and Windows OSs that I am trying to network.
1.Windows 2000 Professional Desktop (D1)
2.Windows XP Home Laptop (L1)
3.Windows XP Professional Laptop (L2)
I did what you suggested - set up a workgroup and have one
common user-id across all these 3 machines.
Now, both D1 and L1 can ping L2. But none of the laptops
(2 and 3) are able to ping the Windows 2000 machine.
When I view the workgroup on D1 and L1, I see all the 3
computers.
On 3, in the workgroup I see only L1 and L2 and NOT D1.
Is there any special permission that I need to give
for "ping" and other tcp/ip commands ? The reason I am
asking this is the File sharing seems to be working
atleast in some combinations of these computers but if I
want to run some apps on the desktop (http server, web
server etc) and access from the laptops looks like I need
to configure something else.
If any of you have figured this out, please let me know.
Thanks,
Kannan
