Firstly here is the configuration I need help with.

My friends windows xp machine has a broadband connection in another part of
the house.

My iMac connects to this wirelessly via a wifi dongle. (iMac os 10.4.11)

I also have a windows xp machine networked to my iMac via a crossover cable.

I would like to be able to have my xp box connect to the internet by perhaps
accessing the wifi dongle on my iMac.

I know I could just purchase another dongle and do it that way, easier but
would defeat the purpose.

So I hope this is possible and you can help.

Thanks
Ken

Don't know about Macs, but it's certainly possible the other way round.
If you had the dongle in the Windows machine, you could configure
"Internet Connection Sharing" on that box, which would allow the Mac to
treat it as a router. You'd plug the Mac in, and it would pick up an IP
address from the XP box and you'd have a connection.

This is a question for a Mac group, as there is nothing to do on the
Windows computer. The Windows computer only has to be configured for
DHCP which is the default for a wired connection.

Look for "internet sharing" on the Mac. You should find it in your Mac
Help. See also this:

The only adapter that would be "guarantied" to work with the XBox 360
is the adapter that Microsoft has designed for it.

TYPO! Sorry I can see your confusion, the sentence "> I would like to be
able to have my "xp box" connect to the internet by perhaps

iMac wifi network "dongle" may never be usable within any XP version.
You which to set up either an "ad hoc" (to PCs with no router to link
them) wireless network or set up "connection sharing" with the iMac
controlling the Internet access.

Please understand that this is a Windows XP newsgroups and any
questions for Mac OSX may not be answered.

Noone ever wanted to do that. As you can still see above, the XP
computer is connected with a cross cable to the iMac.

The other option mentioned would be to buy another "dongle" (I guess a
USB wifi adapter).

In the above mentioned scenario there is no need for an ad hoc wireless
network. Either the XP is wired to the Mac or it connects wireless to
the existing router in the other part of the house.

As I have posted before the function on Mac OS is called "Internet Sharing".
