I am running a win2k domain with 12 machines and a win2k server using
A/D .All the machines are connected through a switch. Connected to the net
through a netgear firewall.
The network will sometimes just stall. I can see this if I try to browse
the network. I will select "entire network" and then wait at least 30
seconds and then my domain will show up. I click that and at least another
30 seconds later I may or may not see all the machines on my network. while
this is happenning I can drop into a command wondow and ping any machine by
name and I can also use NSlookup just fine. Once while this was happening I
saw an entry on the workstation event log I was on that said that the server
"had announced that it was the master browser and an election was being
forced" . I have seen that message when the server is started but never
during the middle of the day like that.
I ran a sniffer and I get some errors about the machines being ":slow to
respond" but I can't interpret the sniffer output well enough to make sense
out of it. It could well be just a default threshold setting that is too
low.
Can anyone help point me in a direction? all machines are fully updated.
