A friend has said that he can obtain a 400mbs speed using a crossover cable
and a NIC. I doubt this and suggested that he used Firewire, but he is
adament that he is using a NIC. The computer when transferring data reports
a 400mbs speed - could this be an error or bug on XP Home?

Can this be done and if so how?

Maybe he's talking about Gigabit ethernet.

What is he using to test this connection?

If he's transferring a relatively small file between computers
using a program that calculates bandwidth, it will report
erroneous errors. ie: I upload a 19byte file to my FTP server
over the internet using DSL, it completes in 1 second and
says my throughput was 19,000+ KBS

Just wondering...
