Hi,

I have 3 Computers. All computers Have Windows XP Pro on them.

The 1st of the three computers I use as a server storing all my pictures and
video etc on there and I control this PC remotely from my PC (3rd PC).
The 2nd PC is a Family PC
The 3rd My PC

I want to have the same folders shared up for both computer 2 and 3 but I
want only computer 3 to be able to delete/add new files. Computer 2 only hass
access to read/view files.

I have tired messing with Permissions and security with no luck, can someone
help me please.

Cheers,

EL

Windows XP Professional controls access to shared folders based on
user accounts. There's no way to control access based on which
computer wants access.

Ron Lowe and I have written a web page with full details of how to set
up access control based on user accounts:

Windows XP Professional File Sharing
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_filesharing/index.htm

If you have any questions about it, I'll be glad to help.

Thanks for sharing the useful information that the step-by-step
illustration.

Question here: If following the setting which the "practicallynetworked"
introduced, there is so many use account and also on the Logon Screen in
both local PC and specified network PCs? ( which can access folder both
togethers)

Has any methods to avoid too many user account on the logon screen at local
PC?

Thanks

I'm not sure that I understand your question. Create whatever number
of user accounts you want people to have on your computers. All of
those accounts will appear on the Welcome screen when the computer
starts.

If you don't want to see all of those accounts, go to Control Panel >
User Accounts, click "Change the way users log on or off", and
un-check "Use the Welcome screen". The computer will then show a
login prompt where you can type the user name that you want to log in.

Thanks, since I read the website from "PracticallyNetworked". It showed the
method to allow the folder network sharing for specified PCs.

However, it required to set the related user accounts in both PCs (local and
peer) for network sharing.

That's why I see many user accounts in the welcome screen. (if I only allow
specified 6 users to access the folder remotely)

Am I right?

The computer that has the shared folders must have a user account for
each user who is allowed to access the shared folders.

Each other computer must have a user account for each person who logs
onto that computer.

If you don't want to see all of those users when you log on, disable
the Welcome screen as I described.
