I have my Vista machine sharing D:\ and a XP machine that I use to access
the shared drive on D:\ and has been working fine for a long time, the XP
machine has no password when it logons and never had to use one before nor
did I checked password protected sharing on the Vista machine in Network and
Sharing Center, it would just connect all the time.
Now I am getting access is denied from the XP machine and when I check
password protected sharing in Vista and restart it's ok. sometimes I need to
use the command net use * /delete /yes
Is there a way I can go back to how I had it before, no passwords just
connect?

cheers

You should assign the password. If you don't want to setup a password and
turn off password protect doesn't work, you may try to enable guest account
on Vista. Once again, we don't recommend to do so.

Thanks for the links Bob, but I keep seeing posts of people saying that I
need to have both computers with the same username and password. Sure this
will work but I have never had to do this before, I build and
configure/repair alot of peoples XP machines and use my Vista shared drive
to install software from.

Password protected sharing works ok
Same username and password works ok

Could be a Vista update that is stopping me from accessing the machine
without the same username and password, both machine have been cleaned
install so firewall software is not the problem here

Try enabling Unhide UPnP icons in Network Places... worked for me.

In retrospect, unhiding the icons probably is not the key (simply showed my
gateway in the list of Network Places) so the password issue must be the
key...

I used to have blank passwords but now I create a password (not necessarily
the same) for each computer and enable autologin through regedit...
