I have an older AMD Athtalon computer that I can not get networked. the
Wizard will not finish and I am not quite sure how to set up manually. i am
able to access the internet with no problem and I can ping the computers Ip
address successfully. I have checked and the client programs are clicked in
the properties of the nework connection. Is there something I am missing or
is there a way to successfully manually setup the connection?

What exactly isn't working?

Here's what the Network Setup Wizard does on a computer that connects
to the Internet through a residential gateway (home broadband router).
You can make the same settings manually:

1. Set the computer name, computer description, and workgroup name
that you specify.

2. Configure the LAN connection to obtain an IP address automatically.

3. Install these network components if they're not present: Client for
Microsoft Networks, File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks

4. Configure the Windows Firewall to allow file sharing on the LAN.

5. Share all printers connected to the computer.

6. Create the "Shared Documents" folder if it doesn't exist.

7. Share the "Shared Documents" folder.

When I use the network setup wizard it states cannot complete the network
setup wizard: An error has occurred during the configuration of the network
on this computer. You can configure manually or try another setting with the
network setup wizard. My firewall shows it allows communication with the
proper IP adderesses. I did not see a specific sharing over lan in the
firewall program. My newer computer the firewall asked me for the settings
when I installed which was a few days ago. The 3 network components show they
are checked in the lan connection.

I understand that the Network Setup Wizard gets an error message.

What about the rest of your network? What exactly is or isn't
working? What are you trying to do on the network, and what happens
when you do it? If there are any error messages, what do they say?

The wizard will not complete and I am not able to share the printer or any
files the computer will not acess the network. I can see the older computer
from the new one in the workgroup. When I try to acess this it gives an error
not acessible you might not have permission. I can not see the workgroup on
the problem computer and the error message when I try to look at the
workgroup is "workgroup is not acessible you might not have permission. I
want to be able to share folders and mainly share the printer. I have no
problems with either computer acessing the internet.

Thanks for giving those details.

Make sure that any firewall program is configured to allow access on
the local area network. Note that some antivirus programs, such as
Norton Antivirus, have firewall components that have to be configured.
