Network Settings?

Hi all,

i've got a problem and i hope you'll be able to help. In my wireless
network i have a laptop, a desktop, a router, a printer and my broadband.
Now all of a sudden my laptop seems to have stopped being able to connect to
the network. I know the network and router etc is fine as i'm using my
desktop to be here on the net now but what i cannot understand is why my
laptop cannot connect. I should point out my laptop uses vista and my
desktop uses XP.

When i try to connect to the network i get the message next to the network
name "The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the
requirments of the network." As far as i am aware no settings have changed,
but how do i find out what these settings should be so i can connect again?

This error means your wireless settings are incorrect. Check your wireless
router and make sure all of the security settings match. Your SSID should be
good since you are trying to connect to the right network. Look at your
wireless settings on your XP machine and make sure they match the laptop. It
is a security setting. What type of security are you using?

i'm not sure how to check the settings of the network if i'm honest. i am
new to the whole networking thing! so i also haev no idea what type of
security i'm using, i just followed windows wizard

No problem. If you go to
1. Start
2. Control Panel
3. View Network Status and tasks (or Network and Sharing Center)

You should see two different networks. One will be the wireless and the
other the wired. Are they set to Private or Public. Also, do an ipconfig for
me.

1. click the Windows Key and the R key at the same time to open the run
command.
2. type cmd and hit ok
3. type in ipconfig /all

you should see all of the information about your connections here. Each
connector will have a value called default gateway. only one should be filled
with a value. Let me know if more than one have that filled.
