I have 2 diff desktops with xp por and a new one with xp
home and want to turn the xp home into an app server. Is
there a way to do this without wiping the xp home and
running server on the machine. I was told that there was
a way to do this(something about making one dominant?)
any suggestion would be helpful.

One cannot upgrade over a workstation O/S to a server O/S.
You'll have to reformat your drive and install your server O/S
"clean".

What kind of app server? If you mean like Exchange then you would need
Server. If you mean web apps then you can use XP (but note there is a
connection limit)
