Windows 2000 Server (SP4)suddenly lost it's network
properties objects. I can't see the existing network
connections or modify or add new connections.

Any info or references that might help me solve this
problem would be greatly appreciated.

.

enable and start the 'Network Connections' service

We are having the same problem tried both articles
mentioned but we are unable to start the Netwrok
Connections Service as the service disappeared from the
services control panel. This occurred after applying the
exhanges server post service pack 3 security rollup.

Any ideas on how to get this service back wold be greatly
appreciated.

Did you stop all 3rd party services before applying SP3 rollup? Anything in
the eventlogs?

Yes we did, It turns out we were probably hacked or
suffered a worm/virus hacking attack. The perptrator
managed to disable numerous services and then edit the
registry to delete several keys which started the
service. This caused other services to fail and was the
reason why the Network connections Service was not running.
Our solution was to export good registry key for other
servers and import them into the registry of the damaged
server.

Thanks for the help.

If you were hacked, you are in serious problems. You will never be able to
tell what that hacker might have left. Consider a format and reinstall.
