I have just installed Windows Vista Home Premium on my computer (dual boot
with XP Home) and have almost everything working. The exception is my home
network (internet connection is fine). My Vista and XP machines do not see
each other (they do when both booted to XP). I have double checked to make
sure the workgroup names are the same. I have installed the LLTD Responder
on the XP machine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Vista won't communicate with other PCs on the LAN unless they are Vista. There is a Layer Patch for the XP at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922120

I took my Vista PC back to Office Depot & bought a XP direct from HP. I have 98 & XPs on my LAN.

The Vista is a desaster for anyone that uses a LAN to share files & printers attached to PCs with WIN98 & XP.

That patch is not required for networking capabilities. It is only for
allowing XP computers to be shown on the Network Map in Vista. If you set
up the networking in Vista correctly, it is more than capable of
communicating with other pcs running XP and W98.

Sorry, but that's just not so. I have a mixed network of Windows 2000, XP
and Vista clients and all of them are happily networking together just fine.
If you have configured your network properly it works out of the box with no
problems.

I would like to know how to set up Vista networking so it can access Win98
machines. Where can I find that tech note?

That usually means the node type is wrong. Run ipconfig /all from a command
prompt, what does it report?
