I have peer-to-peer network with many windowx XP machines
in the same workgroup. I can not see any shared folders
on some machines, and I can see it on computers with XP
home edition. any help?

Thanks

I forgot to mention that when I try to add a new network
place to one of these machines, I get a prompt for a user
name and password and no matter what I input it keeps
asking me for uid and password. and some machines don't
ask for password but say that I don't have permission to
log in!!! how can I change that?

Thanks

Hi,
make sure tht in the xp the guest account is enabled and
doublec check whether u gave any password to guest account
or not.
or to eliminate the problem do the following steps .
go to "control panel - performance and maintenance -
Administartive tools - Local security policy - Expand
Local Policies - Security options and double click
Accounts : LIMIT LOCAL ACCOUNTS USE OF BLANK PASSWORDS TO
CONSOLE LOG ONLY" , - which is enabled by default.DISABLE
this option.
This will resolve the issue
do this if you really want to enable a password while
sharing the resources.

Open the "Administrative Tools" in "Control Panel". Double
click the "Computer Management". Expand the "Local Users
and Groups". Chose "Users" folder and open it. Locate
the "Guest" name then right click it. Choose "All Task"
then "Set Password ...". Click "Proceed". Enter your new
password and confirm it. After that u can open the share
file with this password from other workstation. If u don't
enter the password, then the password word would be blank
regards.

Mark,

Thank you for the help. I did enable the guest acount and
changed the setting as you suggested, I added the guest
acount to the permission for the shared folder. However,
that did not seem to fix the problem, I still can not see
any shared folders when I try to add a new place, I can
see the computer but with no shared folders at all.

Thanks,
Sean
