HELP Can connect my computers

I have tried everything and it just won't work. I have
set up a small home network and am trying to set up my
two computers with a Crossover connection. I have gone
through all the steps (1) I know my cards are working
correctly because when I connect them to my work laptop I
get a connection. The 2 I'm tring to connect won't even
recognize the other is there. (2) I have the set up the
net work on both to use the adapter crossover connection.
(3) I have made sure the Workgroup names are the same.
(4) I have even gone as far as assigning TCP/IP addresses
to each computer to force them to be in line with each
other when communicating. However, NO LUCK. All I get
is a continuous flashing note over my connection icon
saying "A network cable is unplugged".

No matter what I do I can't get these computers to talk
with each other through this simple cross over connection.

Does anyone have any suggestions. I have read all I can
read and and spent 2 full days on this, and reloaded XP
Professional on one computer to no avail.

PLEASE HELP!!!!

If I had your setup and got the "network card is unplugged" error I'd buy a
new cable.
(Actually, I'd splash out on a switch/hub (or router/firewall if I had
broadband) and 2 cables)

Hello,

Reinstall the drivers for your network card
ARe you SURE you're using a crossover?
