but for some reason i can not see either machine on the
other one

i wam running a hub and each computer has its own
internet connection

Please HELP ME it is driving me nuts

1 make sure both PCs are running the same protocol
2 make sure both PCs are in the same workgroup

If you network two computers, you can try connecting them
right together without the hub. A cream color cable
should be used, the grey one may not work.

Make sure the built-in XP firewall, and any other firewalls, are disabled.

Cable color is irrelavent. To connect 2 NICs directly, a "cross-over" cable
must be used. Staight through and cross-over cables come in many colors and
often are the same color. The pin-out is the important and distinquishing
characteristic of the cable.
