Problems with networking computers;
In my house I have five computers, 2 running XP pro, 2
running ME, and one running 98 SE. One of the XP
computers has a modem and is setup for ICS and works well
with all the computers except the problem XP machine,
which I can't get on the network. I am unable to ping
that machine and I am unable see the network from that
machine.
Here is a list of some of the things I have tried:
1. I have connected the network cable going
to the problem machine to one of the
ME machines and that cable works good with
the ME machine.
2. I have changed out the NIC with one from a
working system.
3. I have re-formatted the hard drive and re-loaded
XP pro in the problem machine.
4. When I use the network setup disk from the other
XP machine It will not assign a compatible IP address.
5. Since the machine that has ICS is assigned
192.168.0.1 I have assigned IP address 192.168.0.5
subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and default gateway as
192.168.0.1, it still won't see the network.
6. When I run Scan in Net work Diagnostics from the
help menu it will see address 192.168.0.5.

Why can't I see this computer on the network? I know it
sounds like I have a bad network cable or a bad NIC, But
I have thoroughly check it out and it's not that.
Can someone help me with this problem
Gordon

I find the best way to run a client through ICS is to set
it to obtain an IP address automatically. Cheers
