I am having a hard time getting one of my computers to share files and
printers. I have three computers on a peer to peer network. 1. win xp pro
(the one I am having problems with) 2. win xp home and 3. a laptop with win
98SE. I can't access the xp pro computers files or printer even though it is
set for sharing, I have tried it with computers 2 and 3. I know my network
card and hub is working ok because I can use remote desktop to access
computer #1 and ICS is set up on computer #1 and computers #2 and 3 will
access the internet through computer #1. Networking with computers 2 and 3
are working just fine with each other, but neither one will access #1. I
have run the windows network wizard several times to try and resolve the
problem but to no avail. The firewall protection is turned off for my
network adapter. And I have disabled my trend pccillin antivirus. The icon
for computer 1 is showing on both of the other computers but on the xp home
machine it gives a message of "//{computer}is not accessible. You might not
have permission to use this network resource. Network Path not found" I
have also run through the trouble shooting wizard in xp. The computers do
ping one another. Any suggestions???

I forgot to add that that when i run the network truble shooter it says that
my computer name may be the same. i have check this and even tryed renaming
them but it still says the same thing. is there anything to this???

I am having the same exact problem with my XP home
computer trying to see the XP pro machine. I have ran the
network wizard several times to no avail still same
problem. I can only thing is that the the 1 computer does
not have some type of permissions allowing the computer 2
and 3 to access. The problem that i have is that 1 can
access 2 and 3, but 2 and 3 cannot access 1.

Hi, I am going through the same thing as you with four
pc's. All work fine but one, which happens to be the one
closest to the router at port one. I have done everything
that you tried and get the same results exactly. If you
get any help I would appreciate a reminder. Thanks!

Hello Mike and Mark,

I too am having exactly the same issues with one of my
computers. I am to my wits end and ready to play "PUNT
THE PC FOR PLEASURE"!!!!!!!Im afraid it goes deeper
because I have been through several other forums searching
for an answer and I have encountered over 40 instances of
this same problem and thats just in about a half hour.
Maybe there is some underlying bug that got shot through
wiondows update or a virus perhaps. I am also being
bludgened by lop.com popup. Did both of your networks use
to work fine then poof! Let me know your thoughts or fixes
and I will also.

Steve

I got it working!!!
I made mention of me disabling my pc-cillin antivirus. Apparently it is not
good enough to just disable it, you have to click on settings and go to
personal firewall and then trusted sites there was my Ethernet adapter with
a box that was unchecked I checked the box and wammo everything works great
now.
I hope that this help you other guys. Good luck Mike and Steve.
