How are the PCs connected? Direct cable connection, a cable router or wireless?

i have a firewall on, i forgot that could be a problem.... erm they are connected through an ethernet switch

The Network Setup Wizard automates some of the tasks involved in setting up a home network. It's especially effective with Ethernet® networks, saving you the trouble of configuring some of the other computers on the network. You'll have to make sure all your hardware is connected properly and ready to go, but much of the behind-the-scenes work is handled for you.

The Network Setup Wizard has been improved for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). Launch it by opening Control Panel and clicking the icon.

More info' Here

If you're using XP Home then use the Wizard, it will install the bits missing from the std installation ... XP Pro was given ALL the right bits-n-bobs.

;)

ok im like half way there, i managed to get both my computers to recognise each other, but i cant get my computer in my bedroom to view the files/folders on the main computer

Have you enabled sharing yet?? The easiest way is to go to both C:drives and right click and enable sharing, this should allow you to view the c drive on either system and view files. As far a remote desktop control, that is most easily setup through a windows wizard.

yeah i did all that, but it doesnt matter i can still transfer files off the other computer as i can see this comps files on that one so can still transfer
