I have a Desktop computer at home with Windows XP Pro
installed and a Laptop with Windows XP Home, both
computers are connected with a Linksys Router, the IP
address of it is 192.168.1.1, both computers can connect
to the internet with out problems, from the desktop
computer if I try to access the laptop's shared folders
an error is displayed saying that I don't have permission
to access that computer... and from the laptop if I try
to access the workgroup (wich is "HOME") the same message
is displayed, tough if I search for the desktop and
access it from there I have no problems, I tryed to PING
the IP address of the laptop from the desktop and no
response was returned, but from the laptop I do receive a
response from the desktop IP address... both computers
are configured to get automaticaly the IP address...

From my work I configure the laptop to the IP address
169.254.125.x and I have access to the network imediatly

What I want to know is how to be able to access the
network with out problems from both computers... what am
I missing in my configuration?...

I am having almost the same problem. I brought a new
laptop home, and the first night was able to get a
network connection to my desktop via a linksys router. My
teenage son got a little ambitious, and started
disconecting my desktop. I hooked everything up, but now
I don't have a network. My broadband connection is shared
between the two, so I know that the cable is good. (took
swapping cables on the router).
Anyway - the desktop can see the laptop, but not access
the shared directory. The laptop cannot access the
network at all "You do not have permission to access to
use this network resource. Contact the
administrator... ".
Please Please help if anyone knows what to do. (I am the
administrator...) ha.

Thanks in advance Kathy
