i am using a desktop and laptop to connect to a network hub, i can see my
laptop on the desktop, but not vice versa, what am i doing wrong or missed??

heh, there is much more to it than what you posted. Instead of me asking 50 questions how about the basics......OS, type of network
cabling, have you actually setup the network have you set sharing? etc etc etc etc etc

It does sound as if you have file sharing enabled on the one machine and not
the other. In any event, this should be enough to transfer files, no? Just
make sure you select a volume to share on the laptop.

You need to share a folder, otherwise, there's nothing to be seen in Network
Neighbourhood/My Network Places.

tried that it never worked
the os is win xp h.e. on both of them
the network is a dsl-604+ d-link
i no before you say, it is a router but also a network

I'm not sure if you saw the link, posted by another person, for your
original query. But, this site will have everything you need to check:
www.wown.com You do not have to share any files/folders, in order to be
able to see all computers in the workgroup.

Some basic things to make sure of:

-all computers part of the same workgroup.
-file/printer sharing enabled on all computers.

aaah do i need mac addressing and how do i get it
also, do i need a nic that supports iee1394

It would be helpful if you could post the hardware and software specifics of
your computers. Did the network work at one time? How are you connecting?
firewire? ethernet? WiFi? What are your network settings for your
connection? How have you gone about sharing your files?
